??We designed the NextDimension with gaming and graphics developers, scientific researchers, and seismic data analysts?? needs in mind. Big players in these industries, such as Dell, Alienware, and SGI, often lack the performance, expandability and portability requirements which are quickly becoming more prevalent in the high performance computing world. We recognized a need for a small, portable system, utilizing the highest processing and graphics capabilities, within these targeted user communities,? says Laura Cooper, Director of Marketing, NextCom LLC.
The NextDimension allows the transference of contents from your desktop or rackmount server. Plug into a power supply and do advanced digital production, develop software applications, seismic data analysis, test and measurement, or display proprietary software applications for optimal demonstration on a system smaller than a briefcase. The NextDimension accommodates Microsoft Windows, Linux and Solaris, thus, integration with current applications used is virtually seamless.
AMD ??s Opteron processor drives the FleXtreme NextDimension, available with up to two dual-core (quad) processors. It easily handles 32- and 64-bit computing simultaneously with no loss of performance. ??We see an opportunity to take away from the competition with a 64-bit solution that maintains 32-bit compatibility,? says Dave Jessel of AMD , Business Development Manager for embedded 64-bit products.
ATI Technology??s Mobility Radeon 9000 internal graphics card provides exceptional video quality with a cinema-like look and feel, and the fastest-performing, most advanced 3D graphics in its form factor. Increasing the graphics capability, the NextDimension??s PCI Express x16 slot accommodates any COTS PCIe card. A 64-bit PCI-X slot that runs at 133 MHz, allows additional I/O.
Only 17 inches wide, 12 inches high, and 4.25 inches deep, there is no other workstation of its size and performance available on the market today. With an integrated 15? or 17? TFT screen, the entire system looks much like a plasma TV and is encased in stylish, tech savvy skins. External multiple monitor options are available for ultimate viewing.
Cooling has been a problem for small form factor high performance systems in the past. Despite its extreme architecture, NextDimension maintains a cool temperature quite effectively through the use of multiple fans and a combination of active and passive cooling techniques. An energy-efficient version, with an Opteron processor that runs on only 30W, is available as well.
Multiple expansion options for data, code, and images accommodate all storage and connectivity needs without the complication of system overload. Internal RAID 0/1, removable, bootable 2.5-inch SATA HDD s up to 120GBs, four 2.5-inch internal fixed HDDs (SCSI/SATA/SAS), three Gigabit Ethernet connections, and four USB 2.0 devices.
Without an upgrade, I don't think the RADEON 9000 is going to be doing any heavy graphics work ;-) For more information, click here.
