Powerline Networking - A company called Access demonstrated
their HomeFree Powerline, a home networking solution based
on Intellon Corp.'s PowerPacket powerline technology. HomeFree
Powerline allows multiple PCs to share broadband Internet
connections, MP3 music, video and peripherals, as well as
play multiplayer games simply by plugging into a common AC
outlet. HomeFree Powerline technology connects PCs and upcoming
network-capable appliances at 10Mbps, creating a secure Ethernet-class
network using a home's existing electrical wiring. Based on
Intellon's PowerPacket, HomeFree Powerline eliminates previous
home networking headaches over lack of security, slow speeds

AccessDTV
and NxtWave Communications' Digital Television - NxtWave
Communications Inc. announced that accessDTV, a manufacturer
of digital media receiver solutions for displaying digital
television (DTV) on computer desktops, has designed the NXT2000
QAM/VSB receiver chip into its line of PC-DTV products. AccessDTV
provides a host of DTV solutions that allow PC users to tune,
view, record and replay digital television broadcasts. An
accessDTV-equipped PC can also serve as a set-top converter
for HDTV displays. Consumers will also be able to work on
their PC, surf the Internet or check email, in addition to
selecting any television program to view. AccessDTV's PC-DTV
products allow users to enjoy the exceptional picture quality
of DTV, which is enhanced by the superior reception offered
by the NXT2000 receiver chip, at a very attractive cost for

Intel
Bridges Wired and Wireless Home Networks - A new software
bridge that allows AnyPoint Home Network customers to add
wireless home network functionality to an Ethernet or phoneline
network was announced by Intel. This software enables the
AnyPoint Phoneline and Wireless Home Network products to become
a single home network, enabling it to share files, printers
and a single Internet connection. Previously, it was necessary
to buy an expensive hardware bridge to connect two networks
using different technologies. A wireless home network can
now easily be combined with an Ethernet network or one based
on the Home Phoneline Networking Alliance (HPNA) specification.
The combined home network offers the capabilities of a single
AnyPoint Home Network, including Internet firewall protection,
parental control, multi-player gaming and sharing digital

Motorola
and Domino's Mobile Pizza Purchasing - Motorola announced
that it is conducting a market trial to test consumer acceptance
of mobile commerce applications for rapid delivery of goods
and services delivered to consumers via the mobile Internet
- beginning with hot pizza. Motorola is conducting the trial
with Domino's Pizza to test the consumer market for this new
method of ordering pizza. The trial, which includes residents
in the Las Vegas area, takes place during the coming months
and will allow consumers to order pizza for either pick-up
or delivery. Consumers can select pizzas and order them directly
from their mobile phones over the wireless Internet [-more-]

is designed to meet the requirements of today's hybrid analog-digital

expands Digital Home role - 3Com Corporation announced
the 3Com Home Ethernet Gateway, an easy-to-connect home networking
device that provides for a secure, shared Internet connection
at office networking speeds. Consumers plug the included Ethernet
cables directly into the four ports to instantly connect PCs,
Internet appliances, a printer (via parallel port) and an
external broadband or analog modem over a firewall-protected
high-speed Ethernet network. The integrated four-port 10/100
Mbps Fast Ethernet switch supports video editing, sharing
DVDs or transferring very large files that require high speeds,
as well as multi-player gaming, Internet connection sharing
